Q. We are moving from Northern NY to Cape Coral in 3 months. My Dane/Lab mix is 5 yrs old, I have used K9 Advantix II as a 6-mo coverage for him. What do you recommend I start him on to prepare him for the year-round coverage he will need and is there other “Florida” coverage I should give him (other than flea and tick)
Thanks for your question. Here in Florida we love our warm weather, unfortunately parasites love it too! The main groups of parasites that your canine companion needs to be protected against are heartworms, gastrointestinal parasites, and external parasites (primarily fleas … Continue reading
Q. I recently adopted a female kitty and she’s been getting these patches on her skin and she keeps itching around her neck and in the back of her ears. I am really concerned that this could be contagious or harmful because I also have another kitty and puppy and do not want them all to get sick. I would really appreciate some insight on this so I can at least go towards the right direction.
Skin disease in cats and dogs is a common occurrence and there are multiple potential causes for what you are describing. Contagious causes of hair loss and/or itching can include mites (demodex, scabies) and ringworm (which is actually a fungus … Continue reading

About a day or two after the visit we put him on the Revolution prescribed by our vet and now our cat has horrible diarrhea. I am so unsure of what to do since everything came back negative. He drinks and eats properly (wellness core food brand). Are there any over the counter medications to try or is it necessary to go back to the vet?
Hello, Tapeworms are a frustrating parasite because we frequently miss them on a fecal sample and rely on you to tell us you see them. With most other parasites we visualize the eggs under the microscope. With tapeworms, all the … Continue reading
