Q. My 3 year old 80lb Golden ate a baby sock yesterday. He is eating and going to the bathroom and acting normal. Should I be worried?
Dogs will often eat unusual things. Since your pet is a larger dog the intestine is also large and can accomodate larger items. A sock is not digestible and therefore could cause a problem if it becomes lodged in the … Continue reading
Q. We are looking for a Shih Tzu puppy. One of the breeders I’ve been communicating with has the puppy neutered at 8 weeks. My daughter, who is a vet tech says she thinks that is too early and can wind up with incontinence problems? So, now I am asking you. Thanks
It has been shown that dogs neutered before the age of 4-4.5 months have a higher potential for urinary incontinence later in life because they never get the benefit of certain sex steroids. Waiting too long to spay or neuter … Continue reading
Q. We noticed that our Catahoula puppy has a red sort of blister near his tail on his hind leg. We thought it was a bug bite or maybe even a blister so we just left it alone….we have been watching it over the past week and it seems to be getting bigger. It’s about the size of a pea now. Do you have any idea of what this may be? And should we bring him in to have this looked at more?
Thank you for your interest in our website and congrats on your puppy – if it is a new addition to your family! Blisters or abnormalities on the skin that you described could be several conditions so, yes, I do … Continue reading
Q. When and what age should we have our puppy neutered?

Q. Im a first time pet owner, my father gave me a baby pomeranian chihuahua. Not sure exactly how old she is but what advise can you give regarding the first visit as far as when and how often?
Congrats! Dog ownership is a big deal, so you will want to get off on the right foot. The first doctor’s visit is really important. Puppies are to have a series of examinations, tests and vaccinations every 3 weeks for the … Continue reading
