The 2013 AVMA President’s Award (three awards) recognizes individuals and groups inside and outside veterinary medicine who have made a positive impact on animal, human or public health, veterinary organizations and the profession. Dr. Welborn received the award at the 2013 AVMA Annual Convention in Chicago, Ill.

He is the AAHA Delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates and chaired the AVMA Workforce Advisory Group, which was responsible for the 2013 Veterinary Workforce Study.

“We are so proud of Dr. Welborn and he is so deserving of the AVMA President’s Award. Dr. Welborn has served AAHA in so many different capacities, from time spent on the board of directors and committees, the moving through the officer chairs of the association, and then serving as AAHA’s President,” said Michael Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP, chief executive officer of AAHA. “He has always done an extraordinary job and been so generous with his time – AAHA is very grateful. The owner of four AAHA-accredited small animal hospitals in Tampa, Florida, Welborn has also served in numerous leadership roles with AAHA and AVMA. A diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, certified in canine and feline practice, he earned his doctorate of veterinary medicine with honors from the University of Florida in 1982.

“I have been very privileged to work with some incredibly gifted, dedicated leaders of the profession over the last 20 years. The members of those committees, task forces, and boards deserve the recognition,” said Link Welborn, DVM, DABVP. “I believe all of us that volunteer time within the veterinary profession do so because we believe there is an opportunity to positively impact more lives of people and animals by doing so.”
