Questions & Answers

My 60 lb standard poodle caught a gecko yesterday. He did not eat it. He is out of sorts today and his breathing is heavier even when resting. I must add that his rear feet are wrapped with gauze and Neosporin because of grooming injuries. My instinct is wrestling with letting him rest and/or trying to have him seen today.

Thank you for your question.  Changes in breathing are always an emergency.  You should have your pet examined as soon as possible as merely catching a lizard will not cause this degree of lethargy.  At the same time, the veterinarian should examine the wounds on your pet’s feet.  You can contact us for an appointment at tampabayvets.net or 813 885 4477
