Questions & Answers

My cockatiel had babies but one of them is very small in comparison to it’s siblings. It has been at least 2 weeks and she hasn’t opened her eyes and I am very concerned. Should I feed it and take it out of the cage? Should I take him or her out of the parents care? Is it ok to hand-feed only one of the babies?

Thanks for your question.  Unfortunately, without examining the baby it is very difficult to know why it is not developing at the same speed as the other.  It may not have formed correctly in the egg, or it may not be getting enough nutrition from the parents since it is last in line.  Supplemental feeding won’t hurt, however a comprehensive physical exam is the best way to fully answer your question.
