Encourage Your Cat to Exercise
Posted on January 25, 2024 in Caring for your pet, cat, News

Cats are predatory animals that evolved to be active hunters. Many of our cats, however, live a sedentary indoor lifestyle because owners provide their food and there are no hunting opportunities. To increase calorie expenditures in an indoor cat, you must consciously promote activity and exercise inside the home.

There are several ways to encourage exercise. Cats are individuals, and their preferences may vary, so you will likely need to try multiple methods of encouraging exercise to find something that appeals to your cat. Here are some suggestions:

  • Set up a cat tree to promote climbing
  • Create an agility course for your cat. Lure them through with treats, or wand toys.
  • Turn meal time into an activity by hiding bit of their food throughout the house to hunt for.
  • Be sure to have many fun toys to choose from.
  • If all else fails, just toss an Amazon box down and your cat will have the most amazing time.
