From Our Medical Director: Helping Pets Affected by Hurricanes
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma not only have affected tens of thousands of people, but also their pets. These pets have faced extraordinary hardships in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
Both Dr. Lassett and I have made personal donations to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is providing reimbursement grants to assist veterinarians who are providing services and shelter in the impacted areas.
Others can donate by visiting AVMF.org/Donate and use the code “Disaster Relief”.
In addition, VSG matched the first $10,000 donated by VMG members to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. That goal was met in one day.
While the staff and clients could donate to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, if they want another animal care related organization, I would recommend American Humane at americanhumane.org.
I know several of their Board members, some of whom are veterinarians, and they are the best of the humane organizations.
American Humane is very active in providing animal care resources in the Hurricane Harvey disaster area.
So please consider helping the pets in need by donating or by fostering and adopting displaced pets in need.
