Got a New Kitten? Congrats! Now What? dr with kittensYou added a brand-new family member to your pack – a sweet, fuzzy, curious kitten. Full of energy. SO MUCH ENERGY! Now what?

Insurance

One of the first things we recommend is that you sign them up for Trupanion pet insurance. Why? Kittens are prone to accidents and illnesses in their first year of life as they explore the new world around them. Trupanion paid over 15,000 claims related to new KITTEN related accidents and illnesses. Injuries and treatment for cats cost pet owners across North America over $1 million in 2013 alone.

Vaccinations

Your veterinarian will recommend a vaccine program suitable for your kitten. Type and frequency of vaccination will be based on age, lifestyle (for example, indoor versus outdoor, frequency of contact with other cats, etc.) and risk of exposure to infectious disease. The following list is a typical feline vaccination program that can be modified depending on your veterinarian’s recommendations and your preferences.

Preventative Check-ups

Help your kitten get started on the right paw. Healthy cats are happy cats. While some owners may dread a trip to the veterinarian with their cat, our animal hospitals (except our new Tampa Palms hospital) are certified Cat-Friendly or have doctors who specialize in cats and will gladly show leery owners how pleasant a trip to the veterinarian can be. We look forward to seeing you and your kitten at your next visit!
