My 1.5 year domestic short hair (tuxedo) is having a weird “twitch” with his hind legs. What is it?
Q: My 1.5 year domestic short hair (tuxedo) is having a weird “twitch” with his hind legs. Although his eating and drinking habits have NOT changed, his walking has. He will walk slowly, almost as if he is unsure of his movements, and then stop and struggle to move his hind quarters, rocking one leg back and forth like there is something blocking it from moving. He will give up and flop onto his side and lay or sit there. He is not quite as active as his litter mate (he never was), the only time he will jump up is to sleep with me or in another spot. I have been watching this behavior for about 2 weeks. Is it time for a vet visit?
A: Thanks for the question. Yes, based on your observations, it is time for a full comprehensive examination. Be certain that the doctor performs an orthopedic examination and a neurologic examination. These types of examinations are generally included in a comprehensive examination.
