Questions & Answers

Are porcelain crowns an option for dogs?

Crowns can be placed on dogs teeth in cases of fractured teeth or abnormal wearing of the teeth in order to maximally protect the remaining crown.  Generally porcelain crowns are not used but rather full metal jacket crowns are placed. Depending on the reason for placing a crown, a root canal may also be necessary on the tooth prior to crown placement. This is usually the case. Total cost for a root canal and crown is around $2000-$2500 depending on which tooth. Also two anesthetic episodes are required to do the root canal and crown prep and then another to cement the crown on.
