What is wrong with my dogs eyes? Green discharge draining.

Although there are several underlying causes that may cause discharge from the eyes, a greenish color usually indicates bacterial overgrowth or infection.  An examination will help to determine whether an antibiotic is needed; however it is also important to identify the underlying cause that allowed the bacteria to overgrow in the first place.  Such causes may include allergies, dry eye (also known as KCS), abnormal eyelid shape, eyelashes rubbing against the cornea, cornea ulcerations or trauma…just to name a few.  Eye problems are quite uncomfortable and your pet should be examined as soon as possible. Please contact us and we can find a convenient time for you to bring your pet in to meet one of our great veterinarians.  An examination will cost around $50.
