Behavior Care
According to a recent study, 99% of U.S. dogs demonstrate at least one behavior problem.1 While some of these may be minor nuisances, more serious behavior issues can negatively affect your pet’s quality of life—and yours.
With so many dogs—and an untold number of cats—struggling with behavior, and just over 100 board-certified veterinary specialists in the world, getting an appointment can take months. When your pet is anxious, reactive, or aggressive, that’s time you don’t have.
But there’s good news. Tampa Bay Animal Hospitals is proud to introduce our partnership with Ease, a telemedicine service providing timely, affordable access to experienced, board-certified veterinary behaviorists and experts.
Why does my pet need a behaviorist?
Like cardiology and neurology, behavior is its own veterinary specialty. This is because behavior is not the same as training. It’s much more complex. Behavior is influenced by a pet’s genetics, health, pain, socialization, environment, and many other factors. Specialists understand how to evaluate these areas and their interconnectedness, and design therapies that treat the whole pet—not only the unwanted behavior.
How does Ease work?
Ease is a referral-based service. This means you’ll need to discuss your pet’s behavior with your Tampa Bay Animal Hospitals veterinarian to determine if a behavior consultation is right for your pet. After referral, you and your pet will meet through video chat with a board-certified veterinary behaviorist. Through in-depth conversation and reflection, they’ll gain a fuller picture of your pet’s behavior, environment, health, and social history, along with your questions and concerns, and create a tailored treatment plan just for you.
Does Ease work with my vet?
Yes. Like brick-and-mortar referral care, Ease collaborates with your primary veterinarian to ensure the best possible care. They will share the outcome of your pet’s consultation and any recommendations directly with your vet. If your pet needs diagnostic testing, it can be done at one of our locations, and we’ll share the results with Ease. If medications are prescribed, your veterinarian will be notified, and we can fill them through our pharmacy.
Will I feel supported? What if I have questions?
One of our favorite things about Ease is its commitment to support. As behavior experts, the Ease team understands that overcoming behavior challenges is a long journey. In addition to their treatment plan, pet parents have access to the team via email and receive helpful resources such as guides, video tutorials, and more. Need individualized help? They can do that too, with optional one-on-one coaching and support.
Help is here: Contact us about your pet’s behavior
Behavior issues won’t resolve on their own. If your dog or cat is showing signs of anxiety, reactivity, urine marking, aggression, fear of loud noises, or another behavioral issue, reach out to our team. We can help determine whether a referral to Ease is the right next step and help you get started.
