Questions & Answers

I have an 8 month old yellow lab that has a very wobley back end gait. I can hear popping or cracking when she walks. She’s very active and playful but sometimes seems to have pain in the back end(moves slow or limps). Is it too soon to worry about hip dysplasia?

It is not too soon to worry about hip dysplasia. Best thing to do would be a physical exam and to take some good quality radiographs (sedation is probably necessary) of the hips to evaluate for hip dysplasia or some other developmental orthopedic problem. If hip dysplasia is present then making the diagnosis early may give you more options for treatment on a young dog. We can talk with you further today at 813 885 4477.
