Questions & Answers

I dont really know to how to care for my turtle. He only eats about 2 times a month and is not very active. What can I do?

Thanks for contacting us about your turtle.  There are many different types of turtles and each type is cared for in a different way.  Reptiles can be quite challenging to look after properly as we must provide correct temperature, humidity, environment design, lighting, diet, water quality, etc.

The first step is to ensure that your turtle is healthy.  A visit to a knowledgeable reptile vet is essential for proper species identification, health assessment (which will likely include health testing such as fecal and blood testing), and recommendations on diet and environment.  Twice monthly eating is definitely not normal and indicates a significant problem.

Dr Helmer has over 13 years experience working with many diverse exotic pets, including turtles and will be able to help you determine what the best course of action is to take to get your turtle feeling better as soon as possible.  Please call one of our hospitals to make an appointment with him today.
