Questions & Answers

My nine year old cat’s belly seems firmer than usual. She has shared a house with a kitten that had worms for a few weeks. Otherwise she is acting normal. Should I bring her in or just buy some dewormer?

Hello,

There are quite a few causes for a “firmer” belly. Unfortunately the causes range from fairly benign (gaining weight) to very serious (fluid accumulation associated with growths, liver or cardiac disease).  A thorough exam is needed help better define the cause. I hope this information is helpful,
